Cambuslang Rangers fans can pitch in and help club's surface issues

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell hopes people in the Royal Burgh get right behind their bid to patch up their threadbare pitch at Somervell Park.

A fundraising race night will take place on Friday at Legends in Cambuslang, and a Go Fund Me will also be set up to try and alleviate the problem.

Campbell admits he’s mortified by the state of the surface but says they simply don’t have the cash to fix it.

“We’re trying our best, but we don’t have any money, that’s part of the problem,” he said.

“From a footballing perspective, we’re mortified at the condition of the park. We know what that park used to be like, I was there when it was like a bowling green, and it’s quite depressing.

“You’re trying your best to get our team to play on it, you’re inviting other teams to come and play on it, and the conditions are poor.

“Hopefully we can raise a couple of pounds to try and get some work done on it.”

Drainage has been one of the major issues the club hope to resolve and Campbell added: “We got it verti drained but it didn’t make much difference.

“There are problems with the drains at part of the ground as you come out of the tunnel and we think they’ve collapsed, but we could really do with a bit of money spent on it, which we don’t have.

“There’s also a wee GoFundMe page coming up as well, to try and see if we can raise some money and make an effect on it, positively, because it’s difficult for us.

“We want nothing more than to have the local crowd coming down and visiting fans seeing a decent football match, with good quality.

“We have boys that can play, but it’s difficult to play on that pitch jut now.

“Any support that can be rallied will be absolutely, greatly appreciated.”
