Cambuslang Rangers co-gaffer's blast sparks win that gives side hope in Premier survival bid

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell says his side showed character to fight back and win 2-1 against Hurlford United – after giving them the hairdryer treatment before the game.

The Somervell Park side were a goal down inside five minutes, but Grant Brennan and Ben Richford struck in the second half to give Camby a second win over Hurlford this season.

That gives them hope in second-bottom slot in the West of Scotland Premier Division, with a trip on Saturday to a Petershill side that sits one place and two points above them, but with four more games played.

They also have a game looming against bottom side Kilwinning Rangers, who sit a place and a point below, but with three fewer games played.

Campbell said: “Fighting back from a goal down showed a bit of character.

“I had a long conversation with them prior to the game, around their attitude, application and consistency and I think that’s only actually only the second time we’ve had to have a real moan at them this season.

“Their application and attitude are very good, it’s their consistency of the games – doing what they do for 90 minutes instead of 60, 65 or 70.

“We’ve lost a lot of games in the last 15 or 20 minutes.”

Campbell also hinted his side could do with a wee bit of luck in games.

He said: “Their goal was a bit of bad luck; somebody took a free kick, it struck our striker, cannoned back and put their striker through on goal.

“We don’t seem to get any of those things, but to be fair they went out and delivered it.

“We scored an excellent equaliser and what ended up being an excellent winner as well – it was two very well-constructed goals.

“We were very pleased with it and it sets us up for a massive game against Petershill on Saturday.”
