Cambuslang Rangers 'doomed' unless they go on a run, admits co-boss

Cambuslang Rangers can‘t afford any more slip-ups as they head into a crucial West of Scotland Premier League clash with Hurlford United, says co-boss Paul McColl.

Saturday’2-1 defeat at Glenafton left Camby bottom of the league, a point behind Kilwinning Rangers, but having played four more games.

Third-bottom Petershill have opened up a five-point gap, having played as many more times, and ‘safe’ Arthurlie are in 13th, and are seven points ahead, having played two more games.

McColl reckons his side deserved to take at least a point from Glenafton, but concedes that even that probably wouldn’t have been enough.

He said: “The first half wasn’t great, and we missed a couple of good chances in the second half.

“They scored a decent first goal but at the second one of our midfielders, who is 18, got beat by a 38-year-old, so that wasn’t very pleasing – the guy ran by him.

“We came back into it in the second half and should have got something from the game; possibly a draw might have been a fair result.

“But we can’t afford to slip up any more. That’s probably one of the last games we can afford to lose, because there’s a wee gap opening up now, and it’s not a good one.

“We’ve got 10 games left, and we probably need to go on a wee run now – if not, we’re kind of doomed, with three going down this season.

“We’ve been a wee bit unlucky with some games, and the three points we got taken off us might be something that, at the end of the season, is what puts us down.

“We played well enough in the second half on Saturday but failed to win, and even a draw probably wasn’t good enough.
