Cambuslang Rangers close in on title after 20th win in 22 games

Billy Campbell praised Cambuslang Rangers’ professionalism as they continued to tick games off towards being crowned West of Scotland Conference B champions.

The Camby co-boss watched his champions-elect brush Kello Rovers aside on Saturday in a 5-1 away win, thanks to a strike from Jay Nelson plus doubles from Scott Williamson and John Gemmell.

It leaves Camby needing just seven points from their final six games to take their first league title in five years, having won 20 of their 22 games so far.

And Campbell said: “We need two wins and a draw to get us over the line, so there’s work to do yet.

“If you’d said at the start of the season we’d have this opportunity with six games to go you would have taken it.

“Credit to the boys, it’s them who’ve put us in this position. They’ve had some massive results in big games through difficult circumstances throughout the season.

“It’s another win ticked off but nothing is won yet. The application has to be right in the remaining games.

“Saturday was another good win for us. There was a wee 10 minute spell when we were all over the place. The conditions were tough, wind caught the ball and we lost a goal, that’s the only disappointing thing on the day.

“Big John Gemmell and Scott Williamson worked very well together. We had good feed from Gary Giffin and Jay Nelson on each side, while the back four looked comfortable.

“Overall we showed the level of professionalism that’s required now in each and every game. They know the challenge ahead and we need to make sure the desire is still there to go and get the job done.

“Their goalkeeper has had three top class saves so it could have been more.
