Calvin Bassey given key pre Rangers advice as Ajax boss tells him the one thing he must do to improve

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder reckons Calvin Bassey will go from strength to strength ahead of their Champions League showdown with Rangers next week - if he learns how to use his right foot. The Nigerian international will face Rangers next week in Amsterdam in the opening game in the tournament group stages, just a few weeks after his £19million move from Ibrox.

After a nightmare start, when he was banned for two games after being sent off not long after coming on as a sub during Ajax's Johan Cruyff Shield defeat to PSV Eindhoven, Bassey has won praise for his two league displays so far against Sparta Rotterdam and Utrecht, where his side didn't concede a goal.

But although Schreuder has been impressed by Bassey, he had some words of advice for his future games. He said: "I thought he kept playing the ball with his wrong foot. When you play next to Daley Blind, you have to get the ball to him so he can find a pass.

"If he is not available, then you have to keep the ball. So Calvin can definitely still improve, but that is normal. At Rangers, he only played around 14 games I think, in the centre of defence so he is still learning. He can play very well there in that position."
