Callum McGregor on Celtic hurt fuelling Kilmarnock revenge mission as captain floats 'guaranteed disappointment' theory

Callum McGregor reckons only disappointment is a guaranteed thing in football and that Celtic are 'hurting' from their Champions League sucker punch.

It was the dying embers of Wednesday's night tussle with Lazio that saw more last-minute heartache at Celtic Park when veteran winger Pedro agonisingly nodded home for the Italians to root Celtic to the bottom of their Champions League group. It's now two games without a win on the continent and despite the powers of revival at Motherwell last weekend, the Hoops turn their focus to formidable foe in Kilmarnock who have already knocked them out of a competition, the Viaplay Cup, this season.

McGregor wants a response of the merciless variety when Derek McInnes brings his shaky Killie side to Glasgow, but that Brendan Rodgers men will show just how much they are hurting with their performance in domestic action. The Irish coach hasn't been beaten in the Scottish Premiership so far, with the visitors winless in their last five games.

McGregor said: "There is only one thing guaranteed in football and that's disappointment so the team that handles disappointment the best is generally the team that will go and be successful.

"So we have to show that, we have to show that we are hurt, recover well and come Saturday we put on a performance of high-energy, high-intensity football and show people that we are hurting, because we definitely did enough to deserve something out of the game on Wednesday night.

"Handling disappointment is part of football so we need to get back on the horse on Saturday. You keep notes of those ones where you either drop points or you get beat. We want to try and put the record straight, for sure that will be on our mind come Saturday."
