Callum Brittain makes Barnsley survival claim as club prepare for Fulham showdown

Barnsley full-back Callum Brittain has admitted that he believes that the club will have a chance of achieving survival this season if they use the support illustrated by their fans to their advantage in the upcoming fixtures.

The Tykes were seemingly on course to secure what would have been a crucial victory earlier this week in their clash with Stoke City.

However, Domingos Quina’s effort was cancelled out in the dying embers of this clash by a strike from Lewis Baker.

Although Barnsley did manage to close the gap between them and the safety to five points as a result of this draw, they would have been extremely disappointed to concede in stoppage-time.

Poya Asbaghi’s side will now need to dust themselves down ahead of this weekend’s showdown with league leaders Fulham.

If the Tykes are able to cause an upset by securing all three points in this lunchtime fixture, they will put a great deal of pressure on Reading who are set to travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest.

Ahead of his side’s meeting with Fulham, Brittain has offered an honest assessment on the club’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference for this fixture (as cited by Barnsley’s official website), Brittain said: “If the fans can back us and give us that extra boost, there’s no reason for us as a group not to believe we can get out of it.

“They really make a difference when they’re right behind us, the noise can be incredible.

“We have some big games at home, with Bristol City next week, we’ve Reading and Peterborough here too.

“We can’t feel doubts, just complete faith in what we are doing, follow what the gaffer is saying and we can definitely get out of this.”
