Daryl Dike & Andy Carroll injury latest as West Brom prepare for Birmingham City
Steve Bruce has given an update on the injuries to Andy Carroll and £7million signing Daryl Dike after West Bromwich Albion drew 2-2 against Bristol City last Saturday.
After a positive result against Fulham at The Hawthorns in the previous midweek, Albion rescued a late point through Adam Reach at Ashton Gate at the weekend. The claimed point sees them remain in 12th place on 54 points, five less than eighth placed Middlesbrough.
The Baggies are in the middle of a two-week break as they prepare for a busy demanding schedule ahead. Seven games will follow in April against Bournemouth, Stoke City, Blackpool, Nottingham Forest, Coventry City and Reading.
But first up is a game against local rivals Birmingham City on Saturday, April 2 - their next afternoon in action - and Bruce is hopeful that Carroll and Dike will return to reinforce the squad.
Speaking in his post-match press-conference on Saturday, the 61-year-old told BirminghamLive : "We're unfortunate Andy [Carroll] didn't recover from a knock.
"Big Dike was uncomfortable in training. The idea was can we get him through and be a bit part today and then play him in the under-23s game on Monday at The Hawthorns.
"[But] unfortunately, he was uncomfortable. It's not quite the same injury. It’s a tendon further down I’m led to believe.
"It’s the same leg as what he injured so we’re not going to gamble on that. We’re going to have to see how he is. It’s a real shame because he’s worked so hard to get back.
"But something is niggling at him and we have to take every precaution we can."
