Caerphilly crash sees air ambulance called to scene after car collides with shoppers in town centre

A car has hit two pedestrians in Caerphilly town centre leading to a heavy emergency services presence. Gwent Police and paramedics attended the scene at the junction of Market Street and North View Terrace in Caerphilly at around 3pm on Tuesday to reports a motorist had collided with pedestrians in the street.

Officers attended as well as paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service while the Welsh Air Ambulance was also deployed. The welfare of those involved isn’t currently known.

Eyewitnesses said an emergency services presence remained at the scene on Tuesday night and the area remained closed to traffic. Roads affected include Market Street and Castle Street.

A video taken at the scene shows at least six police vehicles in attendance shortly after 3pm as well as a number of other emergency vehicles. The air ambulance was positioned on the grass verge next to the scene near Caerphilly Castle.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the junction of Market Street and North View Terrace, Caerphilly at around 3pm on Tuesday. Officers and paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service and Welsh Air Ambulance are in attendance. The collision involved a car and two pedestrians. The incident is ongoing." A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said two people were taken to hospital.
