Cardiff's Splott Park taped off as police deal with incident - live updates

A park in Cardiff has been closed off as police investigate an alleged serious sexual assault in the area. Splott Park has been closed off at every entrance.

South Wales Police confirmed their officers were called to the scene at around 3.25am on Sunday morning after the victim, a 44-year-old woman, had alerted a member of the public.

The police force is now appealing for anyone who may have information that could help them in their investigation to get in contact. Detective Inspector Kath Barry said: "The victim is being supported by specialist police officers and enquiries are ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances of the incident. A scene is in place and a number of officers will be seen in area as our investigations continue.

"If you were in the vicinity of Splott Park between the hours of 2.00am and 4.00am this morning and saw anyone in the area, or if you have any other information that could assist our investigation, please contact us quoting reference number 2400316906."

Photos show that police officers and large police vehicles are at the scene. While the park remains cordoned off, the nearby leisure centre, The Hyb, remains opened with access to its car park.
