Burnley unlikely to seal move for 24-year-old despite forward’s transfer claim

Burnley’s chances of completing a move for KV Oostende forward Makhtar Gueye this summer are very slim, according to a report from Lancs Live.

It is understood that the Clarets are likely to be priced out of a deal due to the fact that the 24-year-old is believed to be attracting interest from a number of European sides.

The club’s relegation to the Championship is also likely to hinder their chances of striking an agreement with KV Oostende.

Gueye has expressed his admiration for Burnley manager Vincent Kompany as he plots the next stage of his career.

Making reference to Kompany, the forward has admitted that he would like to work under someone like him in the future and is waiting patiently for an ideal move.

Speaking to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad (as cited by Lancs Live), Gueye said: “I know I was mentioned there [to join Burnley], but we’ll see if that becomes concrete.

“Of course I would like to work with an ex-top player like Kompany.

“Waiting for a transfer is like waiting at the hairdresser: in the end it is everyone’s turn.

“You have to be patient.

“I do dream of a top competition, but I still have a contract with Oostende until 2024.

“I saw Fashion Sakala move from KVO to Rangers, I also want to take a course like that.”

During the previous campaign, Gueye managed to produce some encouraging performances for KV Oostende.

In the 30 league games that he participated in, the forward managed to find the back of the net on 12 occasions.

Gueye will be hoping to deliver an eye-catching display for Oostende when they face Anderlecht on Sunday in their opening league fixture of the 2022/23 campaign.

With Burnley seemingly unlikely to secure the services of Gueye, it will be interesting to see whether
