Burnley player ratings from Shrewsbury as Brownhill and Bastien shine and Tucker catches eye
Burnley beat Shrewsbury Town 3-1 in a pre-season friendly on Friday night as we were given a first look at Vincent Kompany's Clarets.
Samuel Bastien scored the opener in the first half and although the home side levelled immediately after the break, strikes from Ne-Jai Tucker and Bobby Thomas ensured Burnley claimed the spoils.
Kompany started three of his summer signings, with another one coming off the bench, while he give minutes to a host of Academy prospects as he used 19 players across the piece. Here's how we rated the Clarets from the contest.
Didn't have a huge amount to do in terms of shot stopping but his handling was good and he showed enough to suggest he could play out from the back
Lovely slide rule pass to create one attack, new system will really suit him
Played at centre half in the first 45 before switching to right back after the interval where he wasn't quite as assured. Steady but still learning
Will hope to have staked a claim at centre back having played 90 minutes and scored third
Will come under pressure from new man Maatsen but got up and down well
Already central to the new look Burnley with the way he comes into defence to build play when in possession, Lost the ball for Shrewsbury equaliser
Captained the side and will thrive in the deep midfield role in Kompany system
Looked composed and cultured in attacking midfield role. Took his goal nicely and replaced at break
Played as one of the attacking midfielders and created all three goals
Tested the home keeper from distance on a couple of occasions and should provide goals in the Championship
Looked sharp and showed some good interchange play with Rodriguez
Unsettled with ball at his feet and looked edgy
Burnley were under more
