Burnley pair on trial at Hull City make positive impression in brilliant U23s win

Hull City Under-23s made it three matches unbeaten as they beat Ipswich Town 1-0 away from home on Monday afternoon. The young Tigers were helped by a couple of trialists from Burnley with one of them, Tremaine Eastmond, providing the game’s winning goal in the first half.

His goal came after just 12 minutes and proved to be the telling difference on an afternoon where the visitors’ defensive resolve was put to the test on a number of occasions. The 18-year-old Clarets midfielder - who was joined in the side by his Clarets team-mate Jack Leckie - beat the Ipswich goalkeeper to a low cross to score his first goal for his trial club.

Eastmond is a product of the Burnley academy and has represented their under-18 side in the Premier League. Leckie, likewise, has represented the Clarets in the under-18 Premier League. The 18-year-old centre-half joined from Newcastle in 2020 and is out of contract in the summer.

There were further chances for City to double their lead during the first half but they were unable to fully capitalise on several loose passes from the hosts. It looked increasingly like they were going to be made to pay for the inability to convert those chances as the home side grew into the game heading into half time.

The Tigers defence stood up strong to everything that was thrown at them after the interval, which allowed the attacking players to look a real threat on the counter attack.
