Burnley manager latest: Mike Jackson's ambiguous admission as Chris Wilder speaks out

Burnley’s chances of avoiding relegation took a massive boost on Thursday night with a 2-0 win over Southampton at Turf Moor.

Goals from Connor Roberts and Nathan Collins in the first half sealed three points from the Clarets to move them just a point away from safety, despite being without an official first-team manager. Under-23s coach Mike Jackson has taken charge of the last two matches since Sean Dyche was sacked, picking up four points out of six following a 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Sunday.

Burnley are still on the hunt for a replacement for Dyche. Middlesbrough and former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder had been the massive favourite with the bookies to replace Dyche at Turf Moor.

However, Wilder has now publicly distanced himself from heavy links from swapping the Riverside Stadium for a return to the Premier League. The former Blades and Oxford United manager has said that while his aim is to return to England’s top-flight, he wants to do it with current side Boro.

"I've always been incredibly committed," Wilder told BBC Radio Tees. "I'm all in, and as long as the chairman [Steve Gibson] knows that - and I get the close relationship from the supporters to the chairman - that's all anybody needs to be worried about.

"I want to work in the Premier League, I want to work in the Premier League with Middlesbrough. My sole aim is to affect results and improve the football club, we've done that in a short space of time and I'm excited about the future."
