Burnley boss Vincent Kompany issues update on Manchester United loanee Wout Weghorst's future

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has suggested that he will not hold talks with Manchester United loanee Wout Weghorst until the FA Cup final is out of the way in just under three weeks' time.

The Dutchman, who joined United on loan from the recently crowned Championship title winners back in January, is expected to return to Turf Moor following the conclusion of the final against Manchester City at Wembley on June 3. He was drafted in as a stop-gap option during the winter window and he has given Erik ten Hag an alternative attacking option in recent months.

United are, of course, going to target the addition of a new striker this forthcoming summer to try and solve their goalscoring troubles and it is understood that they do not intend to turn Weghorst's loan move into a permanent deal. He has made 28 appearances since his January arrival, scoring just two goals.

Weghorst, following Burnley's relegation to the Championship almost a year ago, initially joined Besiktas on loan at the start of this season and was originally scheduled to spend the full campaign in Turkey. However, United's mid-season interest meant that deal was cut short.

However, now that Burnley have sealed a return to the top flight at the first attempt, it is possible that he could be integrated back into Kompany's plans at Turf Moor. The Belgian has confirmed that no decision has yet been made on that front and talks between the club and the striker are yet to take place.
