Burnley 4-0 Swansea City: Ruthless Clarets punish shoddy defending as Joel Piroe sent off

Swansea City's defensive shoddiness was emphatically punished as they were thumped 4-0 by Burnley at Turf Moor.

Russell Martin's men went into the fixture on the back of a four-game winning streak and started positively in Lancashire. But Vitinho headed Vincent Kompany's side in front on 15 minutes after some woeful defending from the visitors.

It went from bad to worse for the Swans as Jay Rodriguez was the next man to capitalise on some sloppy play from the away side before Anass Zaroury drilled home after an error from Ben Cabango. Martin's side improved after the restart, but after failing to take their chances, they were guilty of more woeful defensively play as Rodriguez netted his second to ensure Burnley stretched their unbeaten home run in the Championship this term to seven games while Swansea had Joel Piroe sent off to cap off a wretched day.

Head coach Martin made four changes to the side that started in the 2-1 triumph over Sunderland a week earlier, with Matty Sorinola replacing the injured Ryan Manning while Kyle Naughton came in for Harry Darling.

Up top, Michael Obafemi - who was the subject of fierce transfer interest from the Clarets in the summer - and Olivier Ntcham got the nod over Ollie Cooper and Luke Cundle who both dropped to the bench.

Much was said about the style of the sides prior to kick-off, although it was Swansea who started on the front foot and looked to control proceedings. They went into the contest having scored the most goals in the opening 15 minutes of league games so far this term, and they almost extended that impressive record.
