Bulls will again call on a few URC stars: 'We expect a strong onslaught from Griquas'

The Bulls are wary of Griquas ahead of Saturday's Currie Cup encounter in Pretoria.

The Bulls beat Griquas 53-27 in Kimberley earlier in the season, but the Pretoria side's assistant coach Pine Pienaar expects the men from Kimberley to hit back in the return clash at Loftus Versfeld.

"This weekend we expect a strong onslaught from the Griquas," Pienaar said ahead of the match.

"They are currently doing really well, and they had a great win against the Lions in Kimberley (49-17). On that day the Lions had a couple of their URC players in the mix."

The Bulls are currently top of the Currie Cup standings with six wins from eight matches (32 points), although the unbeaten Cheetahs (31 points) have a game in hand.

Griquas (20 points) are fourth on the log with four wins and as many losses.

With the Bulls on a break in the United Rugby Championship before their next fixture against Ospreys in Wales on 20 May, the Currie Cup side is likely to be boosted.

"There will be guys resting this weekend, but there will also be some guys coming in for the Currie Cup," Pienaar said.

"For us it is about how well we can plan and how well we can manage our players."

Pienaar also stressed their desire to do well in both the URC and Currie Cup.

"We see the Currie Cup as a very important competition to play in. We are not in the semi-finals yet," said Pienaar.

"We have four games left, starting with a quality challenge against Griquas. When we get closer to the Cheetahs game (the final round robin fixture) and then the semi-final and final, coach Jake White and coach Gert Smal will plan what to do.

"The challenge then will be the (URC) semi-final and final that could potentially be overseas. But currently, we are just looking forward to this coming
