Bruno Lage reveals Pedro Neto wish & Daniel Podence’s comment before Wolves winner

Bruno Lage has backed Pedro Neto to take over from Adama Traore and give Wolverhampton Wanderers another dimension.

Neto made his long-awaited return as a late substitute in Wolves’ 2-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday after 10 months on the sidelines with a broken kneecap.

The Portuguese wonderkid was heavily involved after entering the field and almost scored a breakaway goal from a Leicester corner in stoppage time.

And Lage hopes Neto can give him the speedy wide option Wolves have lacked since Traore’s loan switch to Barcelona in January.

“It was good and he helped the team in that moment,” Lage said. “He came inside when it was 2-1 and understood the pressure we wanted.

“He gave us some speed in the attack, like the impact that Adama did for us - I think he can have that impact now.

“He had a big chance to score in the last minutes. Pedro, for now, it’s about giving him confidence and time because the things will come, for sure.

“He’s working hard and we believe a lot in him, but to play he must fight for his place every day.”

Neto faces a fight to force his way into Wolves’ line-up, with Daniel Podence currently Lage’s first choice winger.

Diminutive forward Podence had a hand in both goals against Leicester and netted the winner with a superb strike from 20 yards.

“Everyone is important in this team,” Lage added. “We are talking about Daniel, but I can talk about the wingers and the strikers because they are so important to the way we play without the ball and the way we defend and press.

“He created good chances, he scored a fantastic goal and he gave us three points.

“And he knows. I heard what he said before the game, that we have strong competition with the wingers, and that’s it.
