Bruno Fernandes makes Manchester United dressing room claim after Man City defeat

Bruno Fernandes has said the onus is on him and his Manchester United teammates to entertain the club's supporters this season.

Fernandes made the admission after United missed out on winning the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday, losing 7-6 to neighbours Manchester City on penalties. Bernardo Silva netted a very late equaliser for City after Alejandro Garnacho thought he had won it for Erik ten Hag's side seven minutes earlier.

Neither side was at full strength, impacted by both injuries and late additions to the squad after international tournaments during the summer, yet United gave a very good account of themselves. They spurned a cluster of great chances that should have seen them home before the need for a shootout.

One of the standout moments was in the first half when Amad and Casemiro combined with some excellent link-up play that almost resulted in Mason Mount tapping the ball home. Despite a lack of end product, it got United's supporters licking their lips in anticipation ahead of the season.

Fernandes said the players are determined to entertain the fans this season and put last term's struggles firmly behind them.

"I think, when the season starts and you come back, there is always that excitement from yourself; I think we have been feeling that from the fans too," Fernandes told MUTV.
