Bruno Fernandes makes Cristiano Ronaldo transfer wish for when he leaves Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has admitted that he would like to see Cristiano Ronaldo return to boyhood club Sporting Lisbon in the future.

Both players arrived at Old Trafford from the Portuguese giants, Ronaldo going on to play for Real Madrid and Juventus after his first spell before last August’s return. There had been rumours that the striker could be heading for the exit door this summer.

But United rebuffed these claims, underlining that the superstar - who is in the final year of his contract - is not for sale. However, club-and-country teammate Fernandes said he would like to see Ronaldo take up the option of moving back to Sporting once his deal ends.

Speaking to Record, he said: “It would be a great moment for the Sportinguistas, almost everyone expects that. I would like that to happen.

“He has the ambition to continue playing for many years, we will see what he will decide – I hope – when his contract with United ends, but the ambition and dream of Sportinguistas would be to see Ronaldo playing for Sporting.”

Ronaldo made 31 appearances for Sporting before he was snapped up by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2003 - a year after breaking into the first team.
