Bruno Fernandes' hidden talent is his greatest strength for Manchester United

It was the 'first day back at school' for the remaining Manchester United first-team players as they returned to Carrington on Saturday.

The players who represented their country in the mid-June fixtures reported for training again after their extended holiday and the group seemed in high spirits as they did routine fitness tests and some light ball work on the grass.

Bruno Fernandes was one of the first players to arrive in the gym and he ribbed a fitness coach for his lack of a tan after his holiday. The midfielder laughed as he compared his tan, but the truth is Fernandes didn't get much of a break.

The season was longer than usual due to the World Cup being held in Qatar, which meant the FA Cup final was played on June 3. Fernandes captained the side in that game and he reported for international duty with Portugal just 10 days later.

After such an arduous, physically demanding season, it was a ludicrous decision from FIFA to schedule a round of international games in June, but common sense being absent from football's governing body is certainly nothing new.

Fernandes started in both of Portugal's games against Bosnia and Iceland and he was only given a rest in the final moments of the match against the latter, a substitution which finally signalled the end of his 2022/23 season.
