Bruno Fernandes decision complicates the future of another Manchester United player

"I'm not f****** leaving," said Jordan Belfort in an iconic scene from The Wolf of Wall Street.

A fan on social media has suggested making a tifo with Bruno Fernandes' head on Belfort's body with the quote written across it, but it would never be approved by Manchester United.

Fernandes' explanation for staying at Old Trafford - he spoke at a press conference on Tuesday night - certainly wasn't as dramatic as Belfort's for staying at Stratton Oakmont.

Al-Hilal are the most successful club in Saudi Arabia and a huge financial package was on the table for Fernandes, but their interest was rebuffed and he will remain in Manchester.

"It was a very exciting offer. The president of Al Hilal was very nice to me," said Fernandes.

"They talked to my agent, but I spoke to my wife and family, and she asked me what I wanted to do with my future. Never did she say yes or no, or offer to make the decision for me.

"She's always been behind me with every decision. It would have been easy to change, even from a family point of view, as Ruben Neves and João Cancelo are there [with Al-Hilal].

"Our kids are used to each other, I'm used to them, but I want to play at the highest possible level, playing in the major competitions and I know I still can. And I'm happy about my decision."

Fernandes' decision to stay must be considered as excellent news. He has been the greatest signing of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, he is the standard setter in the dressing room and just won a fourth Player of the Year award.

United would have banked a significant transfer fee for a player who will turn 31 in September, but nobody would have trusted the club to reinvest it sensibly in the transfer market.
