Bruno Fernandes claims he might change position for Manchester United in the future

Bruno Fernandes has admitted he enjoys playing a deeper midfield role for Manchester United, despite having made the No.10 position his own over the last few years.

Fernandes has been an unmovable object in the starting team since signing from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and he's made the majority of his appearances as an attacking midfielder.

The 29-year-old is one of the finest chance creators in the Premier League and he contributes goals throughout the season. However, Erik ten Hag has chosen to play Fernandes on the right wing and in a deeper midfield role on a few occasions during his time as manager.

Ten Hag has played Fernandes in different roles for tactical reasons and when speaking to A Bola, he was asked about playing as a 'false nine' in the Manchester derby defeat, which he disputed and led him to discuss how much he enjoys playing a deeper midfield position.

"No, it's not the false nine," Fernandes stated. "I don't do those movements. The ones I make are not 'false nine' because I'm not very used to them. I try my best to make those movements that the coach wants.

"He also asks me to go down [the pitch], because my qualities are not to be there on the last line and fight with the central defenders, although I can and will try to do it to the fullest when necessary and the team needs it.

"I have played, however, especially last season with coach Ten Hag, deeper. In fact, against Everton, I played No.6 and I still think it was one of the most complete games I've played, at all levels.
