Broxburn Athletic have one foot in Lowland League and boss 'expects them to finish off Dalbeattie Star'

Broxburn Athletic have one foot in the Lowland League next season and boss Stevie Pittman expects his side to finish the job tonight by downing Dalbeattie Star.

The East of Scotland League champions have a big advantage going into the second leg of their play-off final after an impressive 4-1 win over the Lowland League strugglers at a scorching Islecroft Stadium on Saturday.

Greg Page’s strike inside six minutes got the visitors off to a dream start and then a Garry Brass double, either side of a goal for the hosts, had them in command. Nick Locke’s effort in 65 minutes added to their tally to make them strong favourites to progress.

And Pittman is full of belief his side will seal their place in the fifth tier. He said: “It was a good result. I was a bit disappointed we lost a scrappy goal but the boys played well on a really hot day. We’ve got a good cushion to take into Friday night at home now so we are looking forward to it. We are looking for a good support and, hopefully, the players can go and finish the job.

"Do I expect us to win? Yes, I do. But there is a lot of hard work to be done and we need to be on it. We won’t take anything for granted because they will come and have a go at us.”If they do that and open up, it will give us more chances so they’ll need to watch what they are doing as well. We’ll be ready for what they will throw at us.”

He added: “We scored after six minutes and we should have taken more of our chances. All we have got to do now is be tuned in. If we do that, we should be fine but football is a funny game and you need to be tuned in the whole game. I’m sure they will be and I have every confidence in the club.”

Taking the leap to the fifth tier would be a big step up for the West Lothian
