Broxburn Athletic ace out to create more Scottish Cup memories for club and town

Nick Locke knows just what a Scottish Cup run can do for Broxburn Athletic – and the town.

He skippered the Brox during their magical 2019-20 run to the fourth round when they swept aside numerous higher level teams and took 1600 fans to Paisley for a clash against Premiership outfit St Mirren.

And it’s why he’s determined to get the better of Lochee United at Albyn Park on Saturday.

They ultimately lost 3-0 that day in Paisley, but two of the goals arrived in the closing moments, while scalps claimed on that journey included Cowdenbeath – who were challenging at the top end of League Two at the time.

Locke bagged himself a late leveller in Fife before a packed Albyn Park witnessed the East of Scotland side dominate almost the entire 90 minutes in a convincing 3-0 win in the replay.

Add in late victories over East Stirlingshire and on their away trip to Inverurie Loco Works and the Scottish Cup has produced memories that will last a lifetime for Locke.

Now back in his second spell at the club after a three-year stint with Bo’ness United, he reflected on that journey and said that he’s determined to make even more special moments for the club and the community.

He said: “The aim is to go on a similar journey and that starts on Saturday. We know Lochee United are going to be a very good side. When it was the old Juniors, this would have been seen as a right good top tier game, but they’re in a different region now so we’ve not played them for a while.

“It always used to be good battles and we’re expecting nothing less from them at the weekend.
