Brock Lesnar says he retired after big WWE WrestleMania loss

Brock Lesnar has revealed that he actually considered himself retired after losing the WWE Championship at WWE WrestleMania 36 in April 2020.

At WrestleMania 36, WWE’s first pay-per-view of the COVID-19 era, Brock Lesnar lost the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre in the two-night show’s main event.

After that match, we didn’t see Lesnar on WWE TV for another 14 months, when he returned to confront Roman Reigns at the 2021 SummerSlam event.

There is seemingly a reason for that, as ‘The Beast’ has revealed that he considered himself to be retired after that match.

Speaking on The Michael Kay Show, Lesnar explained that, at least in his mind, he retired after losing to McIntyre in April 2020:

“I actually retired when COVID hit and my contract was up in 2020. Full circle Brock Lesnar story, I had my first wrestling match in Minnesota was in a garage with no people. 20 years later, had a WWE Title match at WrestleMania in a warehouse in front of no people. 20 years, full circle. I was like ‘I’m out.’”

When asked what brought him back to wrestling, Lesnar unsurprisingly stated that money played a big factor:

“Cha-ching! [money]”

It’s a good job that Lesnar returned to WWE, as he is set to feature in what is being dubbed the “biggest WrestleMania match of all-time.”

At the show on April 3, WWE Champion Brock Lesnar will defend his title in a Winner Takes All title vs. title unification match with Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

This will be the third time that Lesnar and Reigns have shared the ring in the main event of WrestleMania (previously in 2015 and 2018), and this will likely end their feud which started seven years ago.
