British GP: Mick Schumacher hoping for wet qualifying & discusses upgrades for Budapest

Mick Schumacher is looking forward to a potentially wet qualifying at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

Schumacher was inside the top ten in FP1 but that meant little given only half the field set a lap time and rain meant few were particularly competitive.

FP2 was dry, meanwhile, and both Haas cars found themselves in the bottom five, which obviously isn’t where they want to be.

Schumacher cut a positive enough figure after the second session, though, with him telling the gathered press at Silverstone that some fine-tuning and a bit of wet weather could still lead to a good showing:

“I think it’s a bit more fine-tuning. My lap wasn’t perfect which adds to the fact we’re further back than we should have been.

“Tomorrow should be wet which will be good for our car.”

Schumacher was also asked about the lack of upgrades on the Haas car with so many rival teams bringing bits and pieces to their cars this weekend, but he said that Budapest’s ‘big update’ should be a good one:

“It’s getting a bit tougher but that’s life, that’s how we decided to go about it. Some teams have bought more updates here which doesn’t help our cause but with the knowledge we have and the updates the teams are bringing that will aid our own knowledge further, that will help the big update that we’re bringing to Budapest.”

Rain is forecast to play a part in qualifying tomorrow, and we’ll just have to wait and see what Schumacher and team-mate Kevin Magnussen can produce.
