British GP: Mercedes confirm they're bringing upgrades to Silverstone

Mercedes‘ technical director Mike Elliott has revealed that the Silver Arrows will be bringing upgrades to the British Grand Prix as they bid to close the gap to the front-runners.

The W13 has proven a bit of a challenge for the team so far this year but, at times, it has shown signs it can be a competitive car.

Indeed, when the track surface is smooth, like it was in Barcelona, they can run their car low to the ground and with a stiff set-up, and the hope is that they will be able to do that again in Silverstone, and try and show similar levels of pace.

They’re always working to improve the car, too, and Elliott has revealed that the team is bringing upgrades to the British Grand Prix, as they bid to close the gap to Red Bull and Ferrari out in front.

Speaking on Mercedes’ post-Canada debrief video, Elliott said:

“One thing you can be sure of is we will push as hard as we can.

“We will be bringing new bits to Silverstone, we will be trying to push the car forward, trying to get some pace from the car we’ve got or from the package we’ve got as well as the new bits we are going to add to it.

“I think at the same time though we have to be honest with ourselves and say that, at the moment, we are just a little bit behind those front runners in Ferrari and Red Bull. And in a normal race I think it is going to be tough.”
