Brilliant Man City chant summed up Scott Carson's rare Champions League appearance

Manchester City goalkeeper Scott Carson made a very rare Champions League appearance as he replaced Ederson against Sporting on Wednesday night.

In a surprising turn of events, midway through the second half Pep Guardiola opted to sacrifice his Brazilian shot-stopper for the 36-year-old Carson. It was his first appearance in the competition since 2005 when fellow second-half substitute James McAtee was just two years old.

City fans were delighted at Guardiola's decision to bring on the former England international. Here is how Twitter reacted.

His involvement in the game wasn't minimal. Moments after his introduction he sprung into action to deny Paulinho from close range. After making the save, he suffered a knock to his left knee but continued.

The former Liverpool shot-stopper is a rare player within the City squad to boast a Champions League winners' medal for his role in their triumph under Rafa Benitez. Carson has almost become something of a cult hero at City and chants of 'England's number one' soon followed his introduction.
