Brighton trio make XI after thrashing Manchester United: Premier League team of the week

Another weekend of Premier League matches has come and gone with significant developments at both ends of the table.

Four matches took place on the traditional Saturday afternoon kick-off as Chelsea's stuttering form continued after letting slip a two-goal lead to draw at home against Wolves, while Watford were relegated after losing 1-0 at Crystal Palace. Aston Villa pushed Burnley back towards the relegation zone with a 3-1 win at Turf Moor, and Brentford cruised past Southampton 3-0.

In Saturday's later games, Brighton & Hove Albion produced their first home win of 2022 by thrashing Manchester United 4-0, before Tottenham held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

On Sunday, Arsenal took charge of their top four destiny by beating Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates to send Jesse Marsch's team into the bottom three, while Everton secured their first away win since August with a 2-1 victory at Leicester City to move out of the drop zone. At the same time, West Ham bounced back from their Europa League semi-final disappointment with a comfortable 4-0 win at relegated Norwich City.

In the final match of the weekend, defending champions Manchester City took control of the title race after outclassing Newcastle United 5-0 to move three points clear.
