Brian Lohan happy with Clare response after they trounce Wexford

Brian Lohan says his players delivered a response this afternoon as they demolished Wexford in the Allianz Hurling League at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

The Banner managed six goals against a Yellowbelly side that looked all at sea trying to deal with the onslaught, as they got back to winning ways after defeat to Limerick the last day.

While the loss to the All-Ireland champions was only six points on paper, Clare had been outclassed for an hour before late scores put some respectability on the scoreboard.

But there was no such risk of that today as Lohan's charges burst out of the blocks. By the time David Reidy fired in their second goal on 15 minutes they were already leading their hosts by double scores.

Further majors from Aidan McCarthy and Tony Kelly had the contest realistically put to bed before half time.

"We came down last night and focused fairly well for the game," Lohan told RTÉ's Sunday Sport afterwards.

"We were well tuned in for the game. [We] didn't know the number of personnel that Wexford were missing, but at the same time, we had to look after ourselves.

"We're happy enough with the performance. We turned over a couple of balls early on, conceded what we would describe as soft scores. On occasion our touch let us down a bit, but that's going to happen.

"Overall the players responded well. [We were] under a little bit of pressure coming into it, not because we lost the last day, but because our performance was so poor.
