Brewers DFA veteran outfielder Cain

Lorenzo Cain's time in Milwaukee could be over.

The Brewers announced Saturday they are designating the veteran outfielder for assignment and bringing up former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jonathan Davis from triple-A Nashville.

Cain, 36, is in his sixth season with the Brewers but has struggled mightily in 43 games, hitting .179 with one home run and nine RBI.

Prior to that, he spent seven seasons in Kansas City with the Royals, advancing to back to back World Series in 2014 and 2015, winning in the latter year.

The Valdosta, Ga., native is a two-time All-Star and has twice finished top 10 in MVP Award voting.

Davis, 30, has not yet played in the big leagues yet this season and split the 2021 campaign between the Blue Jays and New York Yankees.
