Brett Hodgson reveals Carlos Tuimavave concern and provides injury update on Darnell McIntosh and Josh Reynolds

Brett Hodgson is hopeful that Carlos Tuimavave will be passed fit to play against Wigan Warriors on Thursday night. Tuimavave made his return from a hamstring injury on Saturday afternoon as secured Challenge Cup progression with a dominant win over Sheffield Eagles at Post Office Road.

However, the Black and Whites centre has since complained about a tight calf and he will have a scan on the issue this afternoon. Hodgson spoke optimistically about the injury, claiming the scan is nothing more than precautionary, but he won’t know for certain whether Tuimavave will be able to play until later in the week.

“We’ve got a precautionary scan on him this afternoon,” Hodgson said. “I think he’s OK but hopefully he’ll get some good news on that this afternoon.

“It’s not his hamstring, his calf has tightened up a little bit and that sometimes happens after a period of not playing, especially on that ground, it was quite hard underneath. If the scan shows that he is OK then he’ll more than likely play.”

The head coach will check on the fitness of Darnell McIntosh this week, too, as the winger nears a return from a calf problem. McIntosh has missed Hull’s last four games and Hodgson will give him the time needed to prove his fitness before Thursday’s outing.

“He’s still progressing well,” the head coach added. “He’ll be in the 21-man squad and we’ll see how he keeps going at the backend of the week.

Josh Reynolds will not be fit enough to travel to the DW Stadium, but Hodgson believes the stand-off could return in time to face Huddersfield Giants in the Challenge Cup. Shaul, though, is expected to be a little longer.
