Brett Hodgson proud of Hull FC's defensive effort as Black and Whites claim hard fought win

Brett Hodgson was delighted with the way his side held off Huddersfield Giants to claim a 14-6 win over Huddersfield Giants. The Black and Whites were made to work for it but they frustrated the West Yorkshire outfit to claim back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

Mitieli Vulikijapani claimed Hull’s first try of the game touching down a Jake Connor kick and Andre Savelio did the same in the second half to give Hull a comfortable lead. Chris McQueen went over for Huddersfield late in the day, but the Giants didn’t enough to break FC down in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Hodgson was proud of his side’s efforts to claim the result and he was even happier to have consecutive results in the bag.

“It feels good,” Hodgson said after the game. “The matter in which we did it as well, it was far from our most clinical game with the ball but defensively we just kept turning up for each other.

“They’re a good team. We had to keep working really hard and probably had to defend too much at times but I’m really proud of the effort.

“They didn’t throw a lot at us in terms of some of their shape because we defended well. Our ruck control was good for the most part. We had control of the ruck and momentum of the play.

“I thought Gaz Ellis gameplanned Huddersfield exceptionally well and we know what they were going to throw at us. It was only a one-on-one miss that led to the try. In terms of the overall performance, there are some things to work on offensively but in defence I’m really proud.

“It was a good to get a couple back today. I thought Manu (Ma’u) was really strong and Jordan Lane only got the last 30 minutes and he’s only done one day of training in the last two weeks.”
