Brett Hodgson gives Jake Connor injury update following Wakefield Trinity defeat

Jake Connor picked up a medial ligament injury in 19-18 golden point defeat to Wakefield Trinity on Sunday afternoon, Brett Hodgson has confirmed. Connor was forced off the field in the second half of the clash at Belle Vue after being left on the floor by a Jacob Miller tackle.

He received treatment on the field and initially looked capable of continuing before dropping to the ground and signalling to the bench that he would have to come off. The full-back’s injury will be assessed further in the coming days and Hodgson will be hoping for good news.

“Looks like medial, don’t know the extent yet, we’ll get scans on that,” the head coach said after his side’s defeat in West Yorkshire. “We’ll make sure we cover him if he’s out for a period of time, we don’t know the extent of that yet.

“We’ll get scans mid-week.”

The Black and Whites were leading 18-6 when Connor left the field, thanks to two tries from Adam Swift and an effort from Darnell McIntosh. However, Trinity pulled themselves back into the game through Corey Hall and Lee Gaskell tries, forcing golden point.

Luke Gale missed two one-pointer attempts in extra time but Jacob Miller made no mistake from 35m, to complete the comeback.

“I think when a pivotal player goes off in any team it’s the same,” Hodgson said when asked whether Connor’s injury changed the game. “We lost our way a little bit there.

“We still had enough chances to be able to make sure that we did shut that game out, it’s disappointing.

He added: "In the second half we just couldn’t get off our tryline, it seemed like we were defending constantly and that then gases you and it puts you in positions were you make poor decisions defensively. We needed to be better in those moments.
