Brentford tipped to snap up Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite as Xavi’s side put ‘serious pressure’ on Dane
Barcelona are putting ‘serious pressure’ on Martin Braithwaite to leave the Nou Camp this summer and this could result in a transfer to Brentford, according to a report.
Braithwaite earned a surprise move to Barcelona in February 2020 when the Catalan side paid Leganes £16.2million for him. That came amid a striker shortage for Barcelona.
However, the attacker never had the ability to become a success for them and is now pretty much out of Xavi’s plans.
Last season, he featured in just four games, notching two goals and one assist. This was due to a knee injury and competition for places from the likes of Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, among others.
Braithwaite’s contract with Barca runs until June 2024. But according to Sport Witness, who cite Spanish newspaper Sport, the Blaugrana are looking to offload him this window.
They are putting ‘serious pressure’ on Braithwaite and his agent to secure an exit before next season begins.
There are a few reasons Barca have come to this decision. One is the fact his contract runs for another two years, which means he has a little bit of sell-on value.
Another is that the Denmark international is picking up more offers than some of his team-mates, and Barca hope to capitalise.
