Brendan Rodgers to lead Celtic next generation as James Forrest wants to inspire young Parkhead talent

James Forrest knows from experience that Brendan Rodgers is the perfect boss to help Celtic’s new young guns flourish.

But having been nurtured through his initial top-team apprenticeship by senior pros, the Parkhead icon says he would also savour playing his part in helping the latest breed of starlets to hit their heights. Rodgers has proven himself a master in nurturing and developing players.

Forrest had his game elevated to new levels when the manager arrived for his first stint in charge at Celtic seven years ago. Rodgers is back and ready to do it all again, but the winger knows he can be of assistance along with other senior stars. With an astounding collection of medals, appearances and goals over 13 years, Forrest’s achievements would act as inspiration to any young pup. But he says he’s never comfy. He thirsts for more success. He wants to play his part.

And having had some older shoulders to lean on when he first started out on the top-team scene back in 2010, Forrest knows the importance of also doing his bit for less-seasoned colleagues. Forrest can confirm new recruits such as Odin Thiago Holm, Maik Nawrocki, Kwon Hyeok-kyu, Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tillo are at the ideal place to boost their careers.

He explained: “I just think he [Rodgers] is different to other managers that I have had. I have had really good managers in the past but he makes you feel really good about yourself and, tactically, he’s really good as well. The younger players will really benefit from having the manager. I know it myself and I know loads of boys in the past who have said the same.

“So it’s great for the team to kick on again because, obviously, the last couple of years have been successful. We’ve got a good core group. Two
