Brendan Rodgers reveals lengthy Celtic transfer meeting with Michael Nicholson and tells fans 'we know our targets'

Expectant Brendan Rodgers believes Celtic will land their key targets after holding a "long meeting" with supremo Michael Nicholson.

The Premiership champions have signed two goalkeepers in Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo but fans want more with Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah wanted to return with talks ongoing. And the Irishman – fresh off a pulsating 4-3 win over Manchester CIty – is certain the players he wants will be in the door before the window shuts as he discussed what comes next with the Parkhead powerbrokers.

Speaking after the win over CIty, Rodgers said: "I had a long meeting with Michael and Chris today, we know the targets we want to bring in. While the club is getting on with that, myself and the coaches were really focused on the improvements of this team, physically, tactically and technically. Yeah, at some point before the end of August I'd expect us to have the players we want in."

Rodgers expanded on Bernardo's situation with the Benfica star expected to turn his promising loan into a £3.5m permanent deal imminently. And the man who has lifted nine trophies over two spells expects his side to come out stronger when the window closes.

He added: "There's nothing new to add, clearly there's lots of work going on behind the scenes but until there's any confirmation on it we'll let you know. I'll make it clear to the Celtic supporters we want to improve, get better. We don't want to stand still this season, we know we want to improve the squad and by the end of the window shutting I'd expect us to be that.
