Brendan Rodgers return to Celtic NOT ruled out as two contenders 'drop out' of next manager race

Brendan Rodgers hasn’t ruled out returning to Celtic as their new boss.

The Northern Irishman is still a leading contender to replace Ange Postecoglou who left for Spurs last week. And while the club are weighing up several managerial targets, Parkhead majority shareholder Dermot Desmond is a huge admirer of Rodgers after his trophy-laden first spell as Hoops gaffer. The 50-year-old left Leicester in April and had planned to take a lengthy break before returning to a Premier League club or job abroad.

Despite distancing himself from reports of potentially replacing Postecoglou, Record Sport understands he won’t rule anything out. It comes after German boss Daniel Farke emerged as a shock contender. The 46-year-old has recently left Borussia Monchengladbach and previously spent four years in England with Norwich City, winning the Canaries promotion to the Premier League. He’s currently a free agent and Sky Germany claim he has already held initial talks about a move to Parkhead.

But two of the leading contenders for the job appear to have dropped out of the race. David Moyes was an early favourite for the post but after securing the Europa Conference League trophy in Prague, he’ll be staying at West Ham next season. And former Chelsea coach Graham Potter – who was approached by Celtic – feels his next club will be in the Premier League.

Manchester City assistant boss Enzo Maresca remains a live target. Talks with him were delayed until after the Champions League Final against Inter Milan. Bodo Glimt gaffer Kjetil Knutsen and Club Brugge assistant Rik de Mil are also on the club’s radar.
