Brendan Rodgers on 'confusing' Celtic transfer policy during first spell as key figure made boss forget frustrations

Newly-unveiled Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the recruitment during his first spell as Parkhead boss was "a little confused".

After a two week build up the Irishman got to work at Parkhead as met the press of the first time since taking over from Ange Postecoglou after the Australian's departure for Tottenham. It is a surprising move to that Rodgers made a return to the Scottish Premiership - firstly because of the outcry of punters back in 2019 when he took his chance to move to the English Premier League and joined Leicester City.

However, that was not the only stumbling block as Rodgers openly expressed his disappointment with the signing policy at Parkhead as he attempted to make his mark on European football and the Champions League after dominating the Scottish game. He was put on the spot by the fans during a second press conference - with one supporter quizzing Rodgers on his previous "frustrations" about transfer business and why he had decided to return.

He talked up the role of Celtic Head of Recruitment and Scouting Mark Lawwell in his response, stating: "When the club had asked me to consider coming back, I needed to see the infrastructure. When Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay came out and took me through where the club was at and what they’ve done over the last few years – from a manager’s perspective I was really impressed by that.

“Before, when I was here, it was maybe a little confused in terms of recruitment and in relation to bringing in players at that level and others from this level. Now, for me what a manager wants is clarity, and it’s very clear.
