Brendan Rodgers offers zero Celtic excuses to Mikey Johnston as unflinching boss warns winger he MUST do more

Brendan Rodgers has issued a blunt demand to Mikey Johnston and told the winger he must do more to become a Celtic regular.

The winger lasted an hour but failed to shine after an impressive second half sub appearance away at St Johnstone on Sunday. Rodgers' men waltzed to a 4-1 win over Hibs on Wednesday night thanks to Oh - replacing Kyogo up front - netting a double a Matt O'Riley header and Luis Palma penalty.

A half-time blast in Perth has put some of the Celtic stars on edge but most have stepped up and took the gaffer's message on board when given the chance. But Rodgers told Sportsound Johnston has to got to do more. He said: "Mikey needs to do more, that is the reality. He has big talent and comes into the game but if you are going to start the game, we need more impact from him but that is something we can hopefully see over the course of time.

"He's not young. He is 24. At some time you need to grab the bull by the horns and be agressive. It can be easier coming off the bench, it doesn't feel like pressure. You can come in and show your qualities. If any player wants to be starting here you have to have that personality to come in and play. But he's been really good in training and earned the start. Hopefully if he gets more starts he can show more of his qualities.

Rodgers has also banished injury fears over Cameron Carter-Vickers. The influential defender was subbed at half-time but the boss says this was a tight hamstring precaution.
