Brendan Rodgers' next Celtic transfer priority revealed as Nicolas Kuhn deal faces final hurdle before unveiling

Nicolas Kuhn has arrived in Glasgow to provide the Celtic ammunition - whilst Brendan Rodgers and his recruitment team have put another striker in their January sights to take the strain off Kyogo Furuhashi.

German winger Kuhn completed his medical in London and flew to Glasgow, with his agent the former Rangers player Christian Nerlinger, last night to finalise his long-term deal. The Hoops have agreed to pay around £3 million plus add-ons to Rapid Vienna. The 24-year-old, subject to international clearance, is likely to be available to make his debut in Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash with Buckie Thistle.

Rodgers has taken a more hands-on role with regards to Celtic’s January recruitment. He wants players who will go in and immediately strengthen his starting XI and squad. A striker remains a priority and a number of loan options are currently being investigated by the Celtic recruitment team, led by Mark Lawwell.

Celtic could buy in this window but would only do so if the deal was right, with the summer being the window that offers more value. A number of English Premier League options have already been looked at.

Rodgers is keen to add another striker with Daizen Maeda part of the Japan squad and Oh away with South Korea at the Asian Games. If they progress deep into the competition then he could be away until February. That leaves Celtic short of frontline options behind Kyogo and Rodgers wants more options as he looks to keep Celtic top of the Premiership pile and to lead them to glory in the Scottish Cup.

A left-sided player is another priority with Celtic likely to listen to offers if somebody comes in for Argentine Alexandro Bernabei. Estoril’s Thiago Araunjo remains on the radar but an agreement has still to be met
