Brendan Rodgers Celtic press conference in full as transfer hunt for 'the right player' sees no stone left unturned

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers insists they are doing everything they can to keep strengthening the playing squad but argues that it is very hard to bring other clubs to the table in the mid-season window.

Earlier this month, the hoops completed the signing of former Bayern Munich youngster Nicholas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna for a fee of around £million and the winger is in line to make his Celtic debut against Ross County at Parkhead on Saturday. The Irishman is still looking to bring in another striker this month with South Korean duo Yang Hyun-Jun and Oh Hyeon-gyu currently away at the Asia Cup, and also wants to add competition for Greg Taylor at left-back.

But speaking at Thursday's pre-match press conference ahead of their clash with the Staggies, Rodgers describes just how notorious the January window can be for getting key targets in the door. Asked on whether fans can expect any imminent arrivals, he replied: "Not at this moment, there’s work going on behind the scenes, of course.

"But yeah, listen, it’s not easy when you know you’re trying to get players in, and I’ve talked about quality before, and I always will do, because that’s the nature of what I want to build here. We have a lot of quality players in our squad currently that are improving and developing, and I want to add more to that.

"But when you’re trying to get quality and when you’re trying to add, it’s never easy because other clubs don’t want to lose quality players. But it’s something that, as I said, has continually been worked on, and I hope before the window shuts that we’re able to do that.”
