Brendan Rodgers hailed Jamie Vardy as Leicester's "catalyst" after the veteran striker smashed another Premier League record on Tuesday night.

Vardy, 35, came off the bench to assist James Maddison's opener against Burnley before getting on the scoresheet himself to announce his return from injury and steer the Foxes to three much-needed points.

The Englishman had been missing with a hamstring injury since the 1-0 win over Liverpool in late December, with Leicester failing to win a league game in his absence.

Vardy's goal against the Clarets was his 10th in the top flight this season and his 94th since he turned 30, meaning he broke the record previously held by Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

Rodgers stressed just how grateful he is to have the prolific frontman fit and firing once again after the victory at Turf Moor sent his side 12th in the table.

"It tells you everything. I'm so happy he could be involved," the Leicester boss said of Vardy.

"The thinking was more that it (Vardy's return) was going to be Leeds but in the last few days he looked really bright, really sharp and he wanted to come and help the team even if it was only for 15 to 20 minutes, and that tells you everything about his attitude.
