Brendan Rodgers has his OWN Celtic fans to blame for negativity the boss with a fragile ego hates – Hotline

No offence was meant and none was taken – well, at least on Jane Lewis’ part – but Good Girl-gate continues to grip the Hotline.

On Tuesday, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers attempted to draw a line under accusations of misogyny following his Fir Park run-in with the BBC reporter. But the Irishman’s claim that the row was simply a sign of the times we live in drew contrasting conclusions from callers. Nick Campbell, Edinburgh, said: “Rodgers has a good relationship with the media, he’s obviously been comfortable enough in Jane’s company to say it to her knowing it would be taken in the right way — as evidenced by the fact Jane herself says no offence was taken.”

Terry Monaghan, Glasgow, added: “Rodgers is clearly feeling the pressure and was obviously rattled by the questioning. But it all seems like a bit of a storm in a teacup." But Gavin MacLeod, Renfrew, said: “Oh dear, oh dear Brendan. He’s gone full David Brent!

“I’m sure he didn’t mean to come across as misogynistic – certainly Jane Lewis holds no grudge – but he should at least be acknowledging that the words, combined with the tone, have triggered some who feel it had a whiff of misogyny about it.

“Jane Lewis is long enough in the tooth that it’s probably washed right over her, but there will be many women who have heard similar comments in the workplace and it’s simply not acceptable. Apologise and move on – but doubling down in his press conference reeks of a man with a fragile ego.”
