Brendan Rodgers gets the Celtic proof he wanted as 'definitive' video angle emerges of Alistair Johnston cutback
After Brendan Rodgers demanded 'proof' that the ball was definitely out before Daizen Maeda's late Celtic goal was ruled out, he may just have got it.
It looked like the champions had salvaged a point despite suffering a Champions League hangover in Leith. Josh Campbell's first half double had Hibs well in control at Easter Road. But Maeda halved the deficit with a scrambled effort after the break, and looked to have wiped out the hosts' advantage with five minutes to go.
But Alistair Johnston's attempts to pull the ball back from the byline before it crossed the line were unsuccessful according to VAR and the goal was chalked off, much to the Hoops' frustration. Hibs held on to continue their unbeaten run and leave Rodgers accusing officials of guessing, questioning whether the camera angles available were really enough for them to say for certain that the ball was out.
But now fans reckon they've found an angle that proves the call from Clydesdale House was the correct one. A freeze frame of Johnston getting his foot to the ball from behind appears to show that whole ball was in fact over the line before he was able to deliver into the box.
And it could be the angle that Rodgers was challenging officials to produce aftwer full-time. He said:"My take is that the official Alan Muir has had a guess at it. The linesman arguably has the best view in the stadium and he doesn't give it.
"So for that to get overturned I am assuming there is an absolute clear image of the ball being out of play. In my experience up here with VAR, you don't have all the angles and they don't have the equipment to say it was conclusively out. So you are actually viewing it from a secondary position and at that point you are then having a guess.
