Brendan Rodgers forces Gary Neville to backtrack after 'sneaky' Manchester United comments

Gary Neville has conceded that Manchester United's chances of finishing in the top four are all but over following the 1-1 draw against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday night.

In truth, United were lucky to get anything out of the game, as Brendan Rodgers' side left Manchester frustrated about not taking all three points from the contest. Kelechi Iheanacho put the Foxes ahead after the hour mark, but the lead didn't last for long as Fred took just a few minutes to restore parity for Ralf Rangnick's men.

But City then thought they had won it late on when James Maddison struck on the 80th minute. Though, following a VAR review, the goal was chalked off after replays indicated that Raphael Varane had been fouled by Iheanacho in the build up.

At full-time, Neville was asked whether the Red Devils were destined to finish outside the Champions League places. He said on Sky Sports: "I think so. That was really bad out there today. I thought it (international break) might work for Manchester United, give them a little break from the club, come back and just have a right go in this last nine games.

"This is going to be a long two months for those Manchester United players and those Manchester United fans if they are going to play like that because it was really poor out there today." But before the international break, Neville had predicted United to sneak into the top four and dislodge Arsenal.

His comments, made just days after United's last Premier League game before hosting Leicester, against Tottenham, were clear. He said: "It was a really bad night for Manchester United," in reference to the Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid, who they were knocked out of the competition by following the 3-2 win over Spurs
