Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic words of wisdom revealed as Damien Duff issued 'knee deep in s***' warning

Damien Duff has revealed the advice Brendan Rodgers gave him when he arrived at Celtic – not to let the s*** get up to your neck.

The Northern Irishman led his boyhood heroes to seven domestic trophies on the spin, including an unprecedented Invincible Treble in his first season.

Duff was appointed reserve team coach at the Scottish Premiership giants by Rodgers in January 2019, before his sudden departure for Leicester City a month later.

But Duff, who is now managing League of Ireland side Shelbourne, has revealed he is taking some of Rodgers' pearls of wisdom forward with him in his career.

Ahead of his first season as a manager, Duff told The Irish Times what he had quickly learned from being the man in charge.

"Since I took the job in early November I haven’t had one day where it has been a clear, easy ride.

"Every day there is some s*** to deal with. More often than not, more than one piece of s***.

“I remember Brendan Rodgers saying to me at Celtic, ‘In management, you are always knee deep in s***. Some days it goes up to your waist, make sure it doesn’t get up to your neck’.
