Brendan Rodgers' Celtic backroom team latest as lingering John Kennedy to Tottenham question nears conclusion

John Kennedy is set to remain at Celtic and reunite with Brendan Rodgers.

The Parkhead assistant manager is wanted by Ange Postecoglou to join him at Tottenham. But, in a dramatic twist, Kennedy looks ready to stay at Parkhead with the Aussie now poised to appoint Rodgers’ old No.2 Chris Davies to his staff in London. The Celtic defender has been a stalwart at the club and part of the first-team coaching scene for almost a decade since first working alongside Ronny Deila.

Kennedy operated closely with Rodgers and Davies during their stint in Glasgow from 2016 when the trio secured seven trophies out of seven and competed in the group stage of the Champions League before the manager’s shock departure to Leicester City just over four years ago. The 39-year-old assumed the assistant role under Neil Lennon and took outright caretaker charge of the team when the former skipper left his second spell as gaffer in February 2021.

Kennedy then formed the key component of Postecoglou’s backroom team and Aussie’s total faith led to a concrete interest in taking him to North London. However, with Rodgers now set to return to the top job at Celtic, Kennedy now looks set to be a major part of his team.

And sources south of the border insist Davies, who had interest from Swansea City in their vacant manager’s post, could now link-up with Postecoglou in the English Premier League. Rodgers is set to finally agree a bumper contract in the coming days to return to the club as manager.
