Brendan Rodgers admits Celtic euphoria overcame him with epic winner quip as he urges 'context' over fan scenes
He avoided a pulled and that wasn't all Brendan Rodgers was delighted about after watching his Celtic side clinch a dramatic 2-1 win over Motherwell.
The champions looked to have blown their chance at three points after Luis Palma saw his first goal for the Hoops cancelled out in injury time by a inch-perfect Blair Spittal strike. That sparked pandemonium in the home stands - but less than a minute later the Motherwell support were brought crashing back down to earth as Matt O'Riley stroked the ball into the net with virtually the last kick of the ball.
Amid the madness, Rodgers himself was on the park to celebrate as fans spilled on to drink in the euphoria. And when asked if the late emotion got to him as well, the Irishman delivered a killer quip: "Oh aye, oh aye. I was just waiting for someone to take me off! No, it's a massive moment and that is football. That's the emotion. I pulled my calf last time I did that so it was ok today.!
Both sets of supporters were on the pitch after Spittal levelled for Motherwell sparked Fir Park home joy, while the away fans responded in kind after O'Riley's effort. Rodgers didn't see much of the madness but instead had words of praise for his resilient heroes.
He said: "In all honesty I didn't see that. I saw people on the pitch and of course that is not what we want. You understand a bit with the lateness of the goals and what that brings to it. You have to think of the context of it all as well. But I didn't see anything else. I was here a few years back when we won the game late on with Tom Rogic and I thought that was as close as we'd get to winning a game late on.
